Location: So. Cal. (Buena Park), No. Cal., AZ.,??? | I went out herping but only saw these tarantulas. I think they are females??
I usually see males on this road in the spring. They have hooks on the front legs. I was really bored and just needed to get out. But these, the poorwills, along with a red fox were entertaining enough. |

| Odd-indeed not mature males. What are they doing out and about??!
I recall in Cencal mating season is around mid October-Halloween. Apparently in Socal springtime is the time to observe mature males? |

Location: So. Cal. (Buena Park), No. Cal., AZ.,??? | I think they(males) are either waking up, or out hunting for food. Females, I believe stay close to their burrows and ambush, while the males are more like hunters. They could also be looking for potential mates, or sizing up the competitors. I am by no means an expert on inverts. I just like to photograph observed behaviors and theorize possible reasons and outcomes. |
